ChrisCongratulations to Chris Brophy of Clarence Center, NY who is the winner of Buffalo Barre’s second 30 Day Challenge! Chris wins a month of unlimited classes to Buffalo Barre. Since starting classes at Buffalo Barre on Feb. 6, Chris lost a total of 8 ½ inches overall, (4 ¼ inches off her waist) and 11 1/2 pounds! She gained muscles, strength and confidence in her body…a body she said she almost gave up on before starting classes at Buffalo Barre.

Heartwarming

Yesterday was a beautiful day at Buffalo Barre. We started the day wearing blue for a 4 year old little boy named Ben Sauer from Clarence Center, NY. Ben has captured the hearts and thoughts of thousands including all of us at Buffalo Barre.

If you’d like to know more about this amazing little boy’s story and how you can help, please visit www.blue4ben.com.

Dressed in blue we pliéd, tucked, pulsed and worked up a sweat holding onto barres decorated with blue lights in honor of Ben.

On Friday, we received a bunch of Blue4Ben bracelets to sell for a $5 donation to Blue4Ben. We filled a vase with them and by Sunday, they were gone!

In the afternoon, we held a donation class for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Lynnette taught the class and chose this wonderful organization that she holds close to her heart.

The day was a heartwarming reminder that so many children in this world are suffering with some type of illness and need our help. It was also a reminder that Buffalo, NY truly is the “City of Good Neighbors!” Thank you to each one of you who supported each cause either by being in class, donating or both! We appreciate each one of you!

Show Yourself Some Love!

Last weekend I was texting with 2 friends and one friend asked…”Have you heard about thigh gap and all of the media hype it’s getting? What do you think?” My other friend: “What is it?” Me: “Yes it’s stupid…another thing for women to stress about!” After explaining what it is to our friend, she replied, “oh…yeah stupid!” Ha! We all agreed it was stupid! Profound thoughts, I know!

In case you don’t know what ‘thigh gap’ is, it’s the idea that when a woman is standing with her feet together, she should have a small gap between her thighs. Some body types and bone structures don’t allow for the gap but it’s getting a lot of media attention and now women everywhere are obsessing over if their thighs touch or not when they’re standing with their feet together!

thighgap

As if that’s not bad enough, there’s another trend in the media called the ‘bikini bridge.’ Apparently this is the latest coveted physical female trait. Urban Dictionary describes it as “when bikini bottoms are suspended between the two hip bones, causing a space between the bikini and the lower abdomen.”

There’s even Facebook and Twitter pages for thigh gap and bikini bridges where young girls and women are posting selfies of their thigh gaps and bikini bridges. People are writing articles about exercises to do to get these things! Seriously?! It appears that self-image with women is getting worse! I can’t even imagine what kind of crazy ideas it’s giving young girls. It seems like there are much more important things in the world to worry about.

I suppose we’re all a little hard on ourselves but hopefully not to this extreme. I often hear complaints about bat wing or bingo arms, muffin tops, thunder thighs, cankles, etc. Usually it involves a good laugh! Those who have had children blame pregnancy and childbirth for stretching everything out and we keep moving through the class. Harmless venting and laugh out loud fun!

With the 40 day season of Lent upon us it got me thinking. What if you gave up self-loathing thoughts and impossible goals like having a thigh gap/bikini bridge? Maybe you don’t care to ever have a thigh gap or bikini bridge. You just want to get back to being a size __ (insert your answer). You just want to feel better about yourself.

When you look in the mirror, what do you do? Do you pick on yourself for this and that? Instead of focusing on what you don’t like when you look in the mirror, why not think of one positive thing about yourself and keep doing that for the next 40 days? Every morning, every day or maybe when you look in the mirror at class. How would you feel about yourself if you did that? Would you realize you’re starting to develop muscle tone in certain areas? Would you see a kind and thoughtful person? Would you set a positive tone for yourself for the rest of your day? Would you believe what you’re telling yourself? Would it inspire you to compliment positive changes in others? With our 30 Day Challengers, would it accelerate your weight loss? Our thoughts are powerful and it’s possible that this could happen.

So Buffalo Barre ladies, I challenge you to give up self-loathing for 40 days and see how you feel.  Change your spirit and your attitude about your body and see if others notice. At Buffalo Barre we do a pretty good job empowering and encouraging one another. Please continue to do that and try thinking positively about yourself! Show the thigh gap and bikini bridge lovers what you’re all about! “Squeeeeze” negative ideas like thigh gap and “burrrrrrrrn” ideas of bikini bridges and try to show yourself some love for 40 days!
